Mow your lawn short

Kelsey with green ground yard care here with a quick tip for you. So we are now getting to the time where our lawns are going dormant, they’re not growing anymore and they are starting to come to a point where we won’t need to mow. And so if you are doing your own mowing, we recommend that you make sure that your lawn is short has one at least one more mow before the snow comes. This will prevent voles from coming as well as it will also prevent snow mold. So we want to make sure that your lawn is not too overgrown before the snow comes and compacts it down. So we recommend doing at least one more mow before the season ends. So if you have noticed your lawn is gone dormant. Now is a great time to maybe just mow one more time or you could be done mowing for the season if you’ve been consistent with your mowing so we appreciate your business. A superior alternative to core aeration

Hey guys, this is Taylor with green grounds. So today I wanted to talk to you about aeration. We take the stance of saying no to aeration. So the reason that we say that is the traditional core aeration spreads diseases like crazy. So behind me here, we have what’s called a necrotic ring. So necrotic ring is probably your biggest nightmare when it comes to aeration. So if any of your neighbors have any of this going on, you can see it comes in this it’s a soil fungus, it comes in in these ring forms, if say your neighbor has this, and then they go in aerate, their lawn, and then come aerate your lawn, you now have this disease. So they are now products out there that you can get the same results as far as de-compacting the soil without the spreading of disease. So we actually add liquid aeration into all of our, our fertilization mixes. That way, you don’t have to risk spreading diseases or diseases in your lawn. And then second, you just get that added benefit of always knowing that we’re adding those additional supplements to help break up that soil in your lawn. And in turn giving yourself a nice, thicker, healthier lawn. So say no to aeration, say yes to liquid aeration. If you want a weed free lawn this season, you need pre-emergent now!

Hey guys, it’s Taylor here with green grounds yard care, we are out doing our pre emergent applications. So the pre emergent applications are super, super important. It’s it’s the most important application of the Year in my opinion. So what this application does, it’s a pre emergent, so that means that it is targeting weeds before they germinate. So this is putting down a blanket of coverage. To make sure that any of those bad seeds that you have in your lawn from weeds in previous years, make sure that they don’t become weeds. So this is exactly what I said just preventative weed control. So it’s the most important application and it doesn’t matter if we do it or if you do, it just needs to get done. So you’re not dealing with those weeds all year. So we do what’s called a split application. We do it the first two rounds, use two different pre-emergents that way we have a bigger spectrum of coverage on those weeds. Ditch the Weed & Feed

Hey guys, it’s Taylor with green grounds. So today I want to talk to you about fertilization a little bit. So really the difference between fertilizing yourself, like if you go into a big box store to get some fertilizer, versus using someone like us that have some sort of professional lawn care service. The biggest difference in doing it yourself versus having a company do it is going to be your weed control section. So none of your granular products out there, like your weed and feeds. To be honest, they they pretty much suck. They do a decent job at feeding the lawn. But as far as weed control, a lot of that that granular herbicide that’s in there isn’t near as effective as a liquid. So the liquid adheres to any of those broadleaf weeds. See, there’s some right here. So anything, any broadleaf weed that you don’t want in your lawn, such as this, some sort of clover is going to get taken care of far better with a liquid, that liquid can coat all of those leafs and then that herbicide can get sucked in through the plant leaf, the weed leaf, and that’s just doesn’t happen with the granular weed and feeds. So that’s one of the main differences that we that we talk about when we’re talking to clients is, hey, depends on if you can do yourself, that’s awesome. If you’re DIYer, that’s not a problem. But if you really want that green and weed free lawn, you’re gonna want to go with something that’s liquid to attack those weeds that you don’t want there. So be thinking about that when you’re looking at weed & feeds. I personally don’t recommend them. But we’re always a phone call away as well. So I think one thing that you’d be really surprised about is how comparable the pricing is would be for us to do your service versus the time of going to Home Depot or or any big box store, buying the fertilizer and putting it out yourself and making sure that it’s consistent. Eagle Mountain Weed Control

uys, Taylor with green grounds yard care. So wanted to go ahead and talk a little bit about weeds. So, pretty much what we’re seeing across the whole county is dandelions are coming up like crazy. So you have a few lawns that are struggling a little bit more than others to come out of dormancy. As you can see this one behind us, it’s going to take a little bit of love and also a good thing to do is to hit that with fertilizer and help kind of wake that up. As you can see here, I got dandelions galore. So if you’re seeing this and you want to go ahead and take care of it, you can use what’s called a three-way herbicide. So a three-way herbicide is a selective herbicide. Another word for weed killer, I guess, that will target just the weeds and not the grass. So you want to make sure whenever you’re putting anything down on your lawn, that it is going to be something that is a selective herbicide, that means it’s not going to affect the grass just those weeds. So You can go ahead and get that. It’s putting a mixin in a backpack sprayer, follow the rate on the bottle, and then go ahead and spray those and those will start shriveling up. So normally we, depending on what the product is, you’re looking few days to call it 10 days for the that we’d really start shriveling up and dying. So that’s the best way to get rid of those. We are mowing in Lehi

Dandelion Weed Control Tip

So our crews are out mon right now but what I wanted to talk to you today about is going to be dandelions. So a few things dandelions, and then also time to turn on your water. So all of these dandelions, they’re gonna come up this time of year it’s, it’s very prevalent in our area to see a ton of them. So this is something that can be solved by a simple fertilization weed control program. You want to make sure that you’ve got a selective herbicide in there to go ahead and knock those out without hurting any of the grass so you don’t want to be that person that goes out and puts roundup on the grass and you have those little those dead spots all throughout your yard. American Fork Lawn Care Tip of the Week

– Hey guys, it’s Taylor with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest. Today, I wanna talk to you about a little bit of maintenance on your push mowers. So, as a homeowner, oil changes on these push mowers once a year is sufficient. So, on a typical season, you’re gonna be mowing about 30 times a year. That’ll be oodles. Especially these Honda engines, they go forever. Okay, so on the oil change, on the side of the mower this engine specifically you have a drain plug down here at the bottom. And then you have where you put your oil in on the dipstick. So we actually just go straight out of here we found it’s a little bit cleaner. You don’t get quite as much as a mess. So a quick tip first before you do anything we like to run the engine for a minute or two, make sure that the oil is warm and it comes out a lot easier. So one of the ways to do it literally just unscrews the dip stick. You can turn this mower up on it’s side, and have a little catch basin under here to catch all that oil. You can even give it a little bit of help, and help it get over a little bit more to get all that oil out. So, once you’re done, turn it back up.

We normally google, google the engine make and model and it’ll tell you how much oil that that it requires, how many quarts. So fill that back up with oil, go ahead and run it for a little bit and then when you’re done, well after you ran it for about two or three minutes, I would check the dip stick level again just to make sure that none of those oils have dropped the levels, make sure that it’s, that it’s stopped off and now we have enough oil in there.So quick little thing that we use as well is we have this, so we, we do a lot of oil changes. So this quick little tool, we got this at Harbor Freight. Hundred, hundred and fifty bucks or so. You hook it up to a air compressor and this literally becomes a vacuum. So, instead of having to tip everything over you can literally, just throw this stick down inside the dip stick, flip the valve and it’ll suck all the oil out. So, it’s a cool little tool if you’re doing a lot of oil changes. Any little motorcycles or four wheelers, lawn mowers, anything with it, with a small engine, this thing will be great.

So another quick thing I just wanna show you the oil we use, so we use the Kawasaki engine oil. So it has an additive of zinc. That’s gonna go ahead and protect that small engine and make sure that you get a little bit more longevity out of your mowers. Saratoga Springs Lawn Care Tip of the Week

– Alright guys, so it’s Taylor here and this is the Lehi lawn care tip of the week. So today I want to talk to you about how to change the blade on a stick edger. So, there’s all sorts of different edgers, there’s a lot of the big ones that are like a cart pushing around. We found that these are the quickest, and the most efficient, so this again is called a stick edger. It pretty much has the same frame and engine as what a weed eater or a weed whacker would have, but it has a little blade on the end. So these metal blades, they get worn down, you have to, as a home-owner you probably only have to change them a few times a year. Us, as a company, we normally change them about daily. So, pretty much what happens here is there’s a little hole right here on the top of the frame, and that hole, you need to stick something in it to prevent it from spinning.

So if I can show you there, so we just stick an Allen wrench in there, that prevents that from spinning. You can get a ratchet and put that over the bolt, we use a kind of an impact wrench. So the only thing to be aware is that lefty loosey, righty tighty 99 percent of the time, except on stick edgers. Always gotta remember that. The blade spins a certain way, so the threads of the screw actually go the opposite way. So when I’m undoing this, it really, on the drill, it says I’m putting it in. And turn that on high for us. So that loosens everything, maybe, hold on. Gets that taken off, so all we do is put the new on back on, and then screw this one back on. So change the direction of the drill, tighten that up, and then it’s good to go. So, not too difficult, but this’ll give you a lot cleaner edge than doing it any other way and it’s pretty simple and quick. So these blades are probably two bucks or so, so they’re not expensive, but they get worn down. It’s just easier to change them. – Hey guys, it’s Taylor, with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest. I wanna give you a quick little tip. So, right here, in certain situations where you have your rain gutter coming down, and then when you have someone trimming, it’s really easy to damage. The damages, as you can see there’s a, there’s a hole right in that corrugated drain pipe. So, there’s a few ways to handle that. Either you stop right here, and then you can kinda hand pull the rest, or just to put a little dib, a little spray of Round-Up. But just, again, be careful. That Round-Up will soak in, so just make sure that you only spray the areas that you want to, wanna make sure dies. It’s easier to do a little bit at a time, and then add, in two weeks, if it didn’t get everything for ya. But, but yeah, that’s kind of a tip. Fertilizer Pre Emergent Tip

We are out here getting our pre-emergent fertilizer down, we want to make sure that you get your yard taken care of before it’s too late. So you have a pretty short window for that pre-emergent application. Once that soil temperature gets above a certain degree, then the pre-emergent is no longer any longer no longer works. So what the pre-emergent does is it goes ahead and makes sure that those weeds don’t have a chance to germinate. So that’s what we’re really doing. And that’s what that pre-emergent is. So anywhere underneath a deck or around your house and gutter places, you’re going to have just tons and tons of places for those bugs to build homes and to dwell. So this is something that you want to go ahead and make sure that you’re on a recurring program to make sure that we create a barrier around your house, so you’re not having any of those bug issues. So your first application, it’s going to do a lot of damage to your insects, which is a good thing, but it does create activity. So you want to go ahead and get those bugs moving to get going through the chemical to go ahead and get them to die. So and then when we keep doing the reoccurring, it creates that barrier.

So anytime that they come into the area, it’s going to get them before they even come into the house. So it’s a simple solution and a fast one to get signed up for a pest control company. – Hey guys, this is Taylor again here. So I wanted to talk about something we found as we were doing lawn care in Alpine. So right here behind me you have this thin patch of grass here. And you can see this is right where you see all of the weeds popping up through. So obviously having a fertilization program and staying on top of your grass and the weeds is a great thing. But one of the things that people overlook, one of the best weed control solutions is to have So there’s a few real ways to address this. So we can come by and do our fertilization weed control program, it’s gonna go ahead and kill all of those weeds, but they’re gonna continue to keep popping up until we address this issue. So there’s a few things that could have caused this, either a watering issue, that you’re not getting good coverage on your lawn and this part has died off and that’s the cause.

So a good sprinkler tune-up is a good place to start. And then second, there’s a possibility that it was some sort of insect issue. So if it was an insect issue and it was last year you’re not gonna have to worry about that. All those bugs will have died through the winter. But, moving forward, this is something that needs to be addressed. The fastest solution, I know it’s not the best and the funnest, but is probably gonna be to re-sod this area. So keep that in mind if you have any trouble areas like that. I guess that’s a good place to start. But we’re doing it, everything’s great. So, that is one thing that we wanted you to keep in mind. So, with all this moisture, this grass is just taking off and starting to grow like crazy. Cedar Hills Lawn Care Tip of the Week

Hey guys, it’s Taylor here with GreenGrounds Yard Care, we’re actually at Home Depot. I wanted to talk a little bit about roundup. So, here we have two different ones. You’re going to see a lot of weeds start popping up throughout your lawn as we’re coming into the springtime. Here is this roundup right here, it says weed and grass killer. So, you need to be careful on which one you’re choosing. This roundup right here is a weed only. So, as you are spot spraying those weeds in your lawn, if you’re doing that yourself and taking care of that, make sure that you have the one that does not kill grass. We’re going to go ahead and throw up a picture right here, we were walking through the neighborhood the other day and we saw one of our neighbors at a property we were doing. And they had just botched their yard by using a roundup. Obviously accidents happen, and it is something that can happen. But be aware of why that is the case. Eagle Mountain Yard Care Tip of the Week

– Hey guys, this is Taylor here. So I was driving down this road, and I saw something and I wanted to kind of pull over and talk about it. So as you can see right here, you have a whole bunch of stuff going on. So what this is, is this is tracks from voles. So I’m gonna try and get you a little closer to see. So underneath all of these little grass piles are just little trails. So when we get snow in the winter, that snow comes down.

Those voles just kind of burrow right underneath the layer of snow, and then in the grass. And they will dig these trails all through here. So this is something that we need to be aware of. The best people to take care of this is gonna be a pest extermination company, so someone that specializes in vertebrates and getting rid of those things. But this is something that does need to be addressed. If we do not address this, it’ll get pretty bad where they keep just rutting through your lawn, and it’ll get to the point that when you’re walking through your lawn, it’s super uneven and almost feels like you’re gonna roll your ankle every single step. So we need to get that taken care of, and then also your problem areas where a lot of people are gonna see it, are places you can see right here how we have just field, and then that’s where you’re gonna have a lot of the critters coming up into the grass. So if you live in an area backed up, if your house is backed up to a field, you’re probably always gonna have some sort of issue like that. Lawn Mowing Saratoga Springs

Hey guys, this is Taylor here. So, today I want to talk to you about new sod in Saratoga Springs. So, Lehi is growing like crazy. Utah County is growing like crazy, and we have a lot of new houses going in. We’ve had quite a few questions on, “When should we start mowing our new lawn?” So, one thing that I would recommend to stay away from your first few weeks would be any large mowers. So, if you are going to mow, I would say give it about two to three weeks. You should be good with the mowing, but I would stick with a small mower. Your weight on the small mowers are going to be about 75 pounds, and then your weight on your large mowers are about 1,000 pounds. And even with the stand-on riders, you have the additional weight of the person who’s standing on the mower.

So, you’re 1200 pounds or so. So, the reason that we want to stick with the smaller mowers is because we’re having to put quite a bit of water down to make sure that this grass takes root, so your soil’s going to be pretty wet. With the big mower, you have the possibility of leaving ruts, so you’re going to have little paths of where the tires go. So, that’s something to be aware of and to make sure that you stay away from. Hey, guys. It’s Taylor with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest. I wanted to show you crab grass is really bad right now. We’re in the middle of August. I want to show you what that looks like. You’re going to see the most of it right here along all of your edges. The crab grass is going to be a lighter green color than your other grass, and it grows in tiers, so if I can get a good piece of that. You see how is has the multiple tiers that go off. Then also, you can see those seeds right there. As soon as this goes to see and lays in your lawn, those seeds can be in your lawn for years and years. When it’s the perfect moisture, perfect temperature, the perfect ground temperature, it will go ahead and sprout.

The majority of those seeds get on the road, on the sidewalk, and blow into the grass. That’s why it’s stronger right here around the edge. There’s one way to prevent that from happening, and that’s from getting a good solid pre-emergent down on your yard. The pre-emergent is going to be the first application of the year, and you really need to make sure you do that inside that window. Again, it’s one of those things that you don’t really reap the rewards of that first pre-emergency until mid-year, but that’s something that needs to be done. Weed Control Highland Tip of the Week

Hey guys, this is Taylor here with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest. So got called to a house to kind of look at their lawn and see what’s going on. We’ve got a bit of everything going on here. So, the lime green grass, that’s going to be our crab grass. We have just really thin area here and that has caused a whole bunch of weeds to be able to pop through. So I mean, you’ve got everything from dandelion, to spurge, to everything. Solution for this… Our fertilization weed control program is going to include weed control at either a three or four way that will go ahead and kill any of these weeds and aren’t supposed to be here. It is going to need to be treated with what’s called Quinn Clorox, to go ahead and kill off any of that crab grass to get that out of there.

So, that would be the first step. The next step, we just really want to make sure that this lawn is fed and healthy, and really we thicken up that… Thicken up the base of grass so that way it helps fight the weeds off a little bit better. So, that’s going to be one of your best solutions to having a weed free lawn, is to make sure that it’s nice, thick, and healthy. And one of the best ways to do that is it makes sure that you’re feeding it, and giving it the proper amount of fertilizer that it needs. So, hope this answers your questions. Hey guys, Taylor here with Green Grounds. Today, I want to talk to you about that crack right there in between your road and your gutter, or your curb, or whatever you want to call it. As you can see here, a lot of a lot of your driveways and cracks right here are going to have tons and tons of weeds. This is something that’s just kind of an eyesore. It is something that can be treated chemically with a Roundup is what we recommend. I want to show you the difference here and how dramatic. Here, so as you can see, we’ve got line coming all the way across, and then boom, this is when the next door neighbors starts, and you as you can tell, his has been taken care of, so you’re not having any of that grass and weed build up. That’s just kind of a little bit of an eyesore and something that’s pretty easy to fix.

Eagle Mountain Lawn Care Tip of the Week

Hey guys, Taylor here with GreenGrounds. So today I want to talk about hot spots. So if you’re going out of town and you’re going to be out of town for longer than a few weeks, it’s a wise idea to make sure that you talk to a neighbor, let them know you’re gone, and they can let you know if you have any dry spots. Sometimes we’ve seen power go out, shut off the sprinkler timer, and then the sprinklers aren’t coming on. With the heat that we’re having, that’ll really fry up your lawn pretty quickly. So one thing that we do for our clients is we have our property checks. We try and make it by once a month to visit properties and let the client know if there’s anything that’s of issue or anything that needs to be addressed. So hope you’re doing well. How to Dethatch your Lawn

Hey, guys, this is Taylor here. Today, I wanted to talk to you about this rake. This is just something that you can get at any hardware store, Lowe’s or Home Depot or Ace. What this is is this is a thatch rake. What this does is it helps get any of that dead, loose grass blades out of the grass to allow water and fertilizer to penetrate through a little bit more. I’m going to do a quick, little demonstration on a two by two foot area here. Really, what you do is you just pull this rake through just as if you were combing someone’s hair. Then, as you can see, you just get a ton of just dead, loose grass out of there. Then, we’ll do one more pass through like this, and then as you can see, when you’re done, you can just get a normal rake and go through and get that cleaned up, but as you can see in this little, teeny area, you just get a ton and ton of dead grass out, and that’s something that we recommend.

If you have any problem areas, this thatch rake will do great, but if your whole yard’s struggling, you can pretty much comb through and get any of that grass out, we recommend just getting a power rake. Saratoga Springs Weed Control Tip of the Week

Hey guys. This is Taylor here. So we’re out here and it’s time for the Saratoga Springs weed control tip of the week. We want to talk about fertilization and weed control. So most of the houses out here, as you can see the lake is right here, you have… All this area used to be a swamp land. So you can tell… So right here along the sides, you see like all sorts of reeds and weeds. And then, here in this lawn, as you can see, there’s kind of just weeds everywhere. There’s a plethora. And there always is going to be until you get on fertilization and weed control program. So all of those areas down by the lake and in the swamps, they had all sorts of weeds that had dropped seeds.

And so, when you get your house built, they bring in top soil. All those seeds are still there though. So as you can see you’re just going to have issues. So getting on the best plan of action is to get on a fertilization and weed control program and that will eradicate those. And then putting down your pre-emergents is going to help those from germinating. So we do hundreds of houses out here in the Saratoga Springs area, but we’ve seen that everyone is struggling with weeds out here. So let us help you. If you have any questions, give us a call. Lehi Weed Control Tip

Hey, guys, Taylor here with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest. It’s time for the Lehi weed control tip of the week. I wanted to show you some weeds in this lawn that have been hit with a herbicide. These weeds in this lawn were hit probably, I’d call it, seven days ago, six days ago. As you can see here, the leaves actually start turning colors. You can see where, oops, as I drop it, sorry about that. Again, you can see where these leaves had been hit. This is probably about day seven. The leaves start changing color, and it just shrivels up and dies. That’s something that you can expect as far as the time frame of after your lawn has been fertilized and it has a weed control in there.

You’re going to have probably, call it, 10 days before that weed actually shrivels up and dies. But there’s going to be a few in-between stages where you’re going to start seeing that weed shrivel, and then you’ll start to see some discoloration, and then you’ll start seeing it go straight yellow. Then, just when you mow, it’ll just disappear. It’s just dead as can be. If you have any questions, need any help with getting rid of any weeds, let us know. Eagle Mountain Lawn Care Tip

Hey, guys. It is Taylor here. So today I wanted to give a Eagle Mountain lawn care tip. I’m in a new development that’s getting built, and today I want to talk about this. So, this is wash out of a concrete truck from pouring the sidewalk. So in the new developments you want to be careful. So if you’re building a house and you have the landscapers coming in, make sure that this stuff is removed before any of the grass goes down. We’ve seen that sometimes landscapers will cut corners, and they leave these just piles of washed out cement there, and it’s a problem area for the rest of the time that you live in that house. Those roots aren’t able to go deep down into the ground because there’s cement or concrete underneath there and it’s a hard pan.

So make sure that that’s removed. As soon as it gets hot outside, you’ll have those areas burn up and turn yellow first before any of the others. So sometimes that’s a sign to know that that’s the case at your house. So if you have a new build and you have problem areas, that’s something to check into. One way to verify or to help figure that out is get a screwdriver, just like a flathead, doesn’t really matter. Get a screwdriver and kind of stab it in the ground, and if you’re hitting concrete or hard pan that’s probably the case, what happened there. So hope this helps. American Fork Lawn Mowing Tip of the Week

Hey guys, this is Taylor here. So today I want to talk to you about sprinkler heads. I thought of this while lawn mowing in American Fork. So when setting your sprinkler heads… If you have a sprinkler head that breaks and you’re doing a repair and you’re going to set that back, one thing that you want to do is make sure that you’ve got a space between the sidewalk, the curb right here, and where your sprinkler head lies. The reason being is if you have a commercial company out doing the mowing and they’re doing your edging, they’ll have a blade that goes right in between there. So if you look back at this property, or this property, this sprinkler head right here, it’s really snug.

So when that blade comes by here, it’s going to hit this head and slowly turn it. And it also has a tendency to break those heads. So you always want to go ahead and make sure that those are set in about an inch or so. So you have the ability to have that hard edge come through and not affect any of that sprinkler head. Lawn Mowing Lehi Tip

I’m lawn mowing in Lehi and I saw this house, and there’s been new sod laid down, but there’s a few places where they’ve got some pretty big voids, areas that when you’re walking, you can roll your ankles. First off, you want to give it, I would say, give your lawn month, month and a half to really try … maybe even longer than that. Let’s call it two months to fill in. If, after that time period, you still have some of these big voids where it’s just nothing, something that you can do is actually put sand in there, just like a playground sand, and the grass will actually grow up through that, and come in. That way, you’re not going to have any of those divots. You don’t want to go too thick. But, go ahead and put some sand in there, and then get a rake and make sure that you’re not proud of where the … you’re not proud of where the other soil goes. Saratoga Springs Lawn Fertilization Tip

Hey guys, this is Taylor here to give you the Saratoga Springs Lawn Fertilization Tip of the Week. I was out running some errands today, and I came across this lawn and I wanted to show you it. This is a really, really bad case of necrotic ring. Normally, it’s not going to be this bad, but this is something that you need to watch out for in our area. Typically, you’ll have just a little cluster of them. This, it goes across this whole front right here, but this is a fungus. Again, it’s called necrotic ring. This is not going to go away by itself. It’ll keep coming up year after year, and you’re always going to have these circles.

This is something that you’re going to need to put a fungicide down, to make sure that this goes into dormancy. It’s something that you’re going to have to stay on top of every single year. You’re going to have to do two applications of that fungicide, and that’ll help it to go into dormancy. Another tip, if you do have this. This is something that you if you have, you do not want to aerate. If you have, say, a little cluster right here, and then you aerate, that spreads it, and so then it’ll go all across your whole lawn. Make sure that you do not do aeration if you have issues with necrotic ring. Saratoga Springs Yard Care Tip

Hey guys. It’s Taylor with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest here to give you a Saratoga Springs yard care tip. A quick tip here. The seasons are starting to change. We’re getting into start doing fall cleanups. Crazy that fall is upon us. One thing to keep in mind, and a thing that you need to take care of, is this ornamental grass. All of this ornamental grass needs to be trimmed back and cut to the base. The easiest way that we’ve found to do that, that we like to do, is we get a bungee cord and we wrap that bungee cord around the base to gather it all together, and then use hedge trimmers and cut it. We typically leave, I don’t know, four to five inches at that base. And then that bungee cord will go ahead and help keep all that grass and debris collected so you can dispose of it easily. Saratoga Springs Lawn Mowing Tip

Hey guys, this is Taylor here with Green Grounds here to give you the Saratoga Springs lawn mowing tip. We’ve got a nightmare here behind me. So here at Green Grounds, we recommend mulching when you’re mowing. But this is something that should never happen. So this comes from a few things. So one, the number one main factor is going too long in between your mowing cuts and not using a bag. This will create all of this dead grass, these clippings, to mat down and kill off your grass. The grass is not able to decompose and to break up this amount of debris. So this is something that’s unacceptable. It’s going to kill the lawn. It’s an eyesore.

So if you are mulching make sure you’re staying on top of your mowing, and mowing every single week. And make sure that you’re cutting… They call it the third rule, so make sure you’re never cutting off more than a third of the grass blade at one time. Anything over that is excess. You’re going to cause issues like this. And also, it is getting to the time of year that we’re going to have a lot of leaves falling, so it’s a good time to switch to a bag regardless if you mulch during the year or not. Dawn of the Day Lilies

In this situation that dead growth did not get removed in the fall, so this spring, you need to go through and pull all that dead growth out. How to keep Trampoline down

So in the North Utah County area, which we live, we gonna have quite a bit a wind so with your trampolines this is something that you wanna go ahead and stake into the ground. Lawn Fertilizer Company Tip

Eagle Mountain Lawn Fertilization Tip

Hey, guys. It’s Taylor here again with Green Grounds with a Eagle Mountain Lawn Fertilization Tip. So, one of the last videos that we did was the necrotic ring video and it’s had a lot of traction. There’s a lot, a lot of people that have this issue that doesn’t really know what it is. So, we’ve been kind of going around and helping people diagnose. So as you can see here, here’s another perfect example. You have your little yellow ring. A lot of the times you have a little green patch come out of the middle, and that’s just kind of a classic necrotic ring, something that can be treated to make it go dormant.

So you’re going to have that nice even look of your lawn. So, if you have this, it’s something that does need to be addressed. At this point of the year, it’s something that can probably wait until next year. I wouldn’t really do anything this year, but from here on out, you’re going to need to have a constant application of a fungicide. So, we use a product called Pillar G, that’s a granular application.

So, you apply … It’s about May when you put your first application down, and then you’re set. Okay, and the application goes down 30 days later. So, that’s just going to be something that you’re going to have to do for the rest of the time that you have this house, or wherever you live, or whatever that situation may be. Cedar Hills Lawn Mowing Tip of the Week

So this is something that can be solved very simply, and help astronomically with the aesthetics of your property. So here we have a tree, it’s got tons and tons and tons of little shoots coming out. So you have shoots coming out of the grass here that all need to be cut. So it’s best to go ahead and get all of these taken care of before they get to this point. Some trees just have that tendency to keep growing those shoots off, but those are something that needs to be taken care of. So that’s something that we do when we go through on our monthly cleanup properties that we go through and do all the garden work. Highland Yard Care Tip of the Week

Hey guys, it’s Taylor with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest here to give you the Highland Yard Care Tip of the Week. So today, we’re out in Eagle Mountain. I wanted to talk about a few things. As you can see behind me here, you have a lawn that is a little bit … I would consider as struggling. So, some of the hard part … So you have a ton of dirt and bare area that you can see here. This area is always going to be a struggle area for weeds. Say we sign you up for a fertilization and weed control program. We’re going to come by, and we’re going to go ahead and kill all of those weeds that are in this dirt area, but those are going to continue to come up. So when we fertilize, if there’s no grass there, it’ll strengthen the grass around it, but it’s not going to fill these areas in.

These areas are going to be areas that will need to be seeded, or go ahead and put some new sod patches there. That’s going to be your … Sod, obviously, if you wanted to cut this area out and put down some new sod, that’s going to be your fastest solution to having a weed-free lawn and keeping it that way as to have nice, healthy turf there. But when it hits this point, it’s almost too far past gone to come back as far as a fast solution. The cheaper solution is going to be to over-seed, but sod is going to be your best solution in this situation. Eagle Mountain Yard Care Tip of the Week

Now that we’re getting a little bit later in the season, we’re going to get a little bit more rain, a little bit more snow, as crappy as that sounds, so now I’m trying to open this for you. So these pop up, you kind of pinch it, you have two little tabs there. You want to make sure that these are all clear and clear of leaves and debris so that way when we start getting these rains, they’re not getting all clogged up and they’re not going to flood out for you, kind of getting jammed. So make sure that your drain spouts are clear of leaves and debris. Just a quick tip before getting into this changing of the seasons. Saratoga Springs Lawn Mowing Tip of the Week

Taylor here with Green Grounds giving you your Saratoga Springs Lawn Mowing Tip of the Week. So we are finishing up the year with our mowing. We are going to mow throughout the rest of this month through October. So as you can see here at this house that we’re cutting, we’re dropping the height of the grass to about two inches, two and a half, two inches. We want to go on that lower side. So when the snow comes, it’s not going to go ahead and fold that grass over and mat that all down.

It helps prevent a few things. One, it helps prevent snow mold. Number two, it also prevents any issues with any rodents. So voles, for example, if the grass is longer, it keeps that that layer insulated and you have a lot of issues with that. So go ahead and drop your height down and get it ready for winter. Lehi Yard Cleanup Tip of the Week

Hey, guys. It’s Taylor here with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest with your Lehi Yard Cleanup Tip of the Week. We’ve got a lot of bushes here in our houses that were nice and green about a week or two ago. That cold temperatures that we’ve had at night have just kind of zapped them. While we’re going through and doing our fall cleanups, this is something that we go ahead and trim back a good about a foot or two. Get all that dead growth out of the way and it’ll help the new growth come through in the spring.

Just getting it ready for winter and going through and doing all your hedge trimming and just make sure that everything’s nice and taken care of. It is so much easier to do a fall cleanup than to do just a spring cleanup. If you do the fall cleanup, the spring cleanup goes way easier and you’re not having any damage to any of your plants and stuff like that. Lindon Lawn Care Tip of the Week

Hey guys, it’s Taylor here with your Lindon Lawn Care Tip of the Week. We’re getting towards the end of the season, you probably only have a few more cuts, and, to be honest, a lot of the grass has slowed down significantly, so most of the mowing that we’re going to be doing is going to be picking up leaves. But, at the end of the season, there’s a few things that we need to do to ensure that your lawnmowers and the handheld equipment start next year.

You can do one of two things. One, you can empty the gas tank, just run it until it runs out of gas, or you could add a fuel stabilizer to it. This is just the Sta-bil brand. An ounce treats two and a half gallons. Usually on your lawnmower, right here, you’re like a quarter of a gallon or a half of a gallon. So just a cap full of this Sta-bil will prevent any of that gas from gumming up the carburetor and making that horrible difficult process of getting this guy started in the spring. It’s going to save you a lot of time and some money as well. So don’t forget to put some stabilizer into your mowers and handheld equipment. Pleasant Grove Lawn Care Tip of the Week

Hey guys, it’s Taylor here again with your Pleasant Grove Lawn Care Tip of the Week. So we’re getting into the colder seasons. Our night temperatures are getting down close to freezing. So we’re pretty much done with the season, and we’re not going to need our garden hose any longer. So we want to go ahead and make sure that this is put away and winterized to help the life of the hose last a little bit longer. So a few things you want to do, go ahead and take any connections off any of the hoses and then unscrew it from the house. So once that’s done, we need to make sure that it’s drained of water.

So you literally need to go through and as you can see, I don’t know if you can see, but there’s water coming out the end of the hose. Just want to make sure that that’s all drained so it doesn’t freeze through the winter. So once you go through all of that and get all of the water out of there, you can go ahead and wrap it up and store it in your garage to make sure that it lasts. That’s just a place that you’re going to have a lot of activity and spiderwebs. So make sure that this place is not missed. A lot of people sometimes don’t hit that area as heavy as they should. Saratoga Springs Lawn Fertilization Tip

Hey, guys. This is Taylor here with your Saratoga Springs lawn fertilization tip. So, I wanted to kind of talk to you about a certain situation. So, we’ve got a backyard here, and then in the backyard you’re butted right up against, whether it’s a field or whether it’s a little river bottom. This is going to be an area that you have to watch out for bugs coming in. So, right here, this is pest activity that’s came from out here. So, something to be aware of. You can come in here. You can just kind of grab and see that those roots are just gone. So, this is something that needs to be addressed. It’s a trouble area.

So, as soon as you start seeing any issues of discoloration, bring that up to your lawn care provider or yourself. You may want to go ahead and put down an insecticide. That’s going to kill any activity that you have in there. So, I hope this helps. American Fork Fertilizing Tip

Hey guys, it’s Taylor with GreenGrounds Yard Care with a American Fork Fertilizing Tip. Today I want to talk about our last fertilizer application. We used granulars on our last application. With that said, one of the main reasons that we use granular is that it is a slow release and it helps promote root strength throughout the winter and really thicken those roots up. Another reason for using the granular is if you have leaves on the ground, the granular is just going to fall on top of the leaves. Then when you rake them up, it’ll fall down to the ground. Your lawn is still going to be able to be fed, even though it is covered with leaves. That’s not a problem. We’re going through, this is, I would say, this is one of the most important applications, close second with your pre-emergent, your first application of the year. Hey guys. It’s Taylor with Green Grounds here with a Lehi yard cleanup thought. Just want to give you a friendly reminder of your daylily. This time of year, you’re going to have all these leaves. These just come right out. You’re going to want to go ahead and take all of these, pull them out, and then you’re going to have all this yellow dead growth that you can just pull out with your hands as well. What’s going to be remaining when you’re done is you pretty much just want to get this down to the base. There’s going to be a whole bunch of dead growth that you want to just rip out of there, so that way in the spring all that debris is out of the way and allows that to grow and let’s it breathe. Another issue when you’re doing your granular applications, you have some leftover, just part of the game. One thing that we want to do is make sure to get that off the sidewalk. Most of your high-end fertilizers aren’t going to stain your sidewalks as they have in the past. The technology has come pretty far, but still, aesthetically it looks better just to get that off. We just use a small little electric blower and it does the job. You just want to go ahead and blow that back into the grass.

Hey, guys, it’s time for your Saratoga Spring Yard Care Tip of the Week. We’re here at a house that has some plants that are going up onto the stucco and brick. So the brick is not going to cause too much of a problem, but when it’s up on the stucco and then you have any wind, you’re going to have some damage marks. It’s going to go ahead and over time start to take away some that stucco. So we want to make sure that these are trimmed down and back good enough that they are not touching any of the houses. It’s just going to prevent a whole bunch of damage or maintenance that you’re going to have to do to fix the issue. Eagle Mountain Lawn Mowing Tip of the Week

Hey guys, just another maintenance thing that we’re going to go over for your Eagle Mountain Lawn Mowing Tip of the Week. Just checking your oil on your machine. So this is a larger lawn mower, but it should be about the exact same process of all of that. So first thing that you want to do is make sure that your engine is off. Go ahead and pull that dip stick out and just give it a wipe. There is also instructions on this stick. So most Toros, you do not thread the cap to do the dipstick, if that makes sense.

So you just set it flush with where the threads go and then pull it out and you can kind of see. So it looks like I’m about halfway in between the add and the in the fill line. So I’m going to go ahead and just top that off a little bit. It’s messy. You’re going to want to use a funnel, and then also a good little tip is if you let your engine run a little bit beforehand, that oil is pretty warm and you get a good reading. So it looks like I’m right to about that full mark. So it looks good. Just want to make sure you check those a few times in between your normal regular oil changes and should help your machine last longer and not blowing the engines out. So have a good one. Lehi Leaf Pickup Tip of the Week

This is Taylor here with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest giving you your Lehi Leaf Pickup Tip of the Week. So, trees are beautiful, obviously, but this time of year, we get tons and tons of leaves. So with all these leaves starting to fall, kind of the best practice as far as a leaf cleanup is going to be when you’re mowing your lawn for these last few mowings, before you mow, get your blower and kind of blow all the leaves out of the flower beds, and then start your mowing with bagging it all up. That’s going to be your quickest and your most efficient way to do it. It’s pretty simple. It doesn’t take too much time. So, our guys usually go through the flower beds, and then blow everything a few feet away from all of the fences. That way when you’re making your turns and stuff, you don’t miss anything, and it just kind of gets into a central location.

So if you have about this quantity of leaves, you’re going to be totally fine. If you start getting really thick and then if they’re wet, you can get some, but you might want to go ahead and bag up. Time for Pre-Emergent

Hey Guys, this is Taylor here with Green Grounds Lawn & Pest So, the weather this Winter, or this Spring has been pretty horrible. As you can tell, you can see a little bit of snowflakes. There’s a little bit of snow leftover from this morning that we got. So with that cold weather, I want to talk about pre-emergents. So, the pre-emergent that we use is called Prodiamine. So the reason that we use that, there’s a few different types, but Prodiamine is the one that holds up the best in the cold weather. So, with Utah being so unpredictable, you never know if we’re gonna have a frost or if we’re gonna have a snowfall on April 10th, or whatever Mother Nature’s gonna throw at us. So that is why we use that. So we recommend doing a pre-emergent your first application. Here at Green Grounds, we actually do two applications of pre-emergent. Your first and second. So your first one is a pre-emergent is the Prodiamine. The second one is called Dithiopyr. So, that one actually has a little bit of post-emergent attributes to it as well.
